Abstract

Coccydynia is a condition which has many causes and these need to be carefully sorted out by an adequate history, careful examination and X-ray. In those cases where the pain is due to local factors associated with the coccyx itself conservative treatment is usually satisfactory. If conservative treatment fails coccygectomy is generally a very successful procedure particularly if wound infection is avoided.
