Original posting, 2005-03-20:
I began having coccyx pain about two years ago, without any trauma to the site, it just started to ache.
Over the period of a few months, it got worse. I went to see an Orthopedic surgeon who was going to take x-rays, but I went home and took a pregnancy test first and found that it was positive, so no x-rays for me!! I went through my pregnancy with severe pain, and after I had my baby I still continued to have pain. I went back to the OS and we agreed to have an injection. The injection worked for about 5 days and wore off...
My next step is surgery. I am scheduled to have my surgery on Wednesday, March 23, 2005. I am very nervous, but I feel like it's the only way I can live without pain. I will update everyone once the surgery is complete, but I'd appreciate any helpful emails about it beforehand!
My surgery was rescheduled for July 11, 2005, because I found out I am going to be interviewing for a new position where I work during the first week of April. The last thing I would want is to be trying to sit sideways in an interview, and then end up having to explain my "butt surgery" to my prospective new bosses!
So, I will continue with surgery on July 11th, and I appreciate anyone emailing me, I have gotten some great support already. I'll update again after surgery.
I had my surgery on Monday, July 11, 2005. The surgeon removed the last part of the bone and said it was VERY pointed, not normal and that the surgery was a success. I am having my stitches removed on Tuesday, 2 weeks after surgery.
I can't sit too much, but when I've tried I no longer have the shooting pain...I think that the surgery was a huge success. I was able to walk immediately and all I've been told not to do is lift, bend or twist. I feel really great!! I would not have changed a thing. I am SO glad I had it done.
I will update a month or so from now to let you know the results.
