The pain has come back

Hi! I am a 45 year old mother of two teens. I have, for the past 20 years, operated a daycare in my home. About 15 years ago, I slipped on a wet floor in a shopping centre, landing hard on my butt. For five years after that, I had chronic pain in my tailbone. Sometimes I would sit in a movie theatre, and at the end of the film would be unable to get up from the seat because the pain was so intense trying to push myself out of the chair.

After the five years passed my pain subsided. Then, about four years ago, I sat down on a deck chair beside a swimming pool, and the chair gave way and I landed flat on my butt again, on the concrete. No, I'm not morbidly obese, but the chair was old and falling apart and I should have looked at it before I sat down. The pain lasted a year before I saw a doctor. After x-rays and a bone scan, I was sent to a specialist. He said there was nothing he could do. I asked him point blank "Do I have coccidynia?" He said, "Yes, but short of surgery, there's nothing that can be done. And the surgery doesn't always work and there is a serious risk of nicking the bowel during surgery" So I just put up with the pain. Until about a year ago, and then it stopped.

But now its back. Three months ago the pain started and its unbearable. And the only thing that's changed is that I've added two babies to my daycare group and they require a lot of lifting. The pain is so bad that it wakes me up at night. So I'm tired, uncomfortable, and grumpy. And trying to do the best I can for all these little ones. Has anybody else experienced increased pain with lifting?

I feel like its kind of pointless to go back to the doctor, because they've said they can't do anything. But there is a nagging little voice in the back of my head that is suggesting that since the pain was gone for two years and I didn't re-injure it, maybe its something different. Has anybody out there every been pain free for a few years and had the pain come back without reinjury? Also, I did take Naprosen for a while but it didn't seem to help. I'm not much on medication, so I haven't tried anything else. Has anybody had any like with simple stuff like Tylenol? I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer. Thanks

Wendy
