I don't know how I hurt my coccyx and I can't sleep!

Hi, I'm Jessica- 20 years old from Los Angeles, California. For the past week I have been experiencing an extreme tenderness and sharp pain at the top of my butt. I had no traumatic experience, and this is the first time I ever experienced this pain before. The only explanation I can come up with is I am in a dance class and perhaps I aggravated it somehow. Anyway, I still find it very strange that I am in agony for no apparent reason.

I went to the doctor, and though I had told her I could barely sit or lay down, she shrugged it off and told me to take three Motrin before bed time so I could sleep. This hardly worked, and I woke up in the middle of night in tears and about to scream from the sharp pains I was experiencing. Now the top of my butt looks like it as a bump the size of a lime popping out of it, and I can't take enough pain reliever to subside the aching.

I bought two donut shaped seats, but they hardly work, I can't find ONE comfortable position for more than a few minutes without fidgeting, and I don't know what else to do. Tomorrow I have another appointment and this time I'm going to make sure my doctor takes me seriously. I don't want to get a Cortisone shot because I have heard from many experts that it can cause harmful long term effects, and I hope I don't have to get it removed or felt up, but I guess whatever it takes. Wish me luck and I shall give an update soon!

PS Tonight I am trying this topical cream that is supposed to be a good deflammotary agent, but I wonder if it will work because I have read almost nothing about this being a remedy for inflammation of/near the coccyx- I would love an opinion from someone. Thanks!
