Car accident also caused my coccyx pain

I was rear-ended in November 2006 and because I looked in the mirror and saw the guy coming I had gripped the wheel tight and hunched over in the seat. My two legs were jammed into my spine from the crash into the car in front while being also crashed into from behind. Initially I got out of the car concerned for my kids' safety but my legs and especially a toe on my right foot were really sore as was the area where the seat belt crossed over.

In the ambulance on the way to the hospital I had a neck spasm and as I lay on the trolley I became aware of pain in my lower back and chest. However all I wanted was to get home to my kids as their Dad was away that night.

Over the next few days I had more neck spasms and the pain in my lower back and coccyx got worse. It got to the stage that to sit down for more than a few mins caused constant pain and it was always agony to rise from sitting. I gladly embraced Diffene and Sopladeine which helped a little but eventually I had to stop the Diffene because of stomach troubles I developed as a result of taking it.

Intensive physio twice a week, and 13 laser sessions later-still no improvement. If anything worse! My lower back and right SI joint were vastly disimproved from arching my back to sit up off my coccyx (can anyone relate??) or indeed sitting to one side.

Now I've had 3 cortisone/lignocaine injections. I didn't want to have the 3rd but accepted my Doctor's advice. There had been some improvement prior to the 3rd injection but in the last week or two I have started to feel a clunking feeling as I sit onto my coccyx. Have the injections made it unstable?? Or is this a coincidence? And more to the point will it hurt like crazy if it's still moving when the cortisone wears off??

To make things worse my physio has looked at me in a puzzled manner a few times and said he really can't understand how a car accident could have caused this!! Does he think I'm lying??

The only time I had coccyx pain (and it was only discomfort now that I know what pain is) prior to this accident was when I sat up in a fairly soft bed for 2 weeks feeding my baby daughter because I was sick at the time. However that was 16 months before the accident and I cycled and did Pilates and Yoga etc after without any trouble at all.

Has anyone recovered without getting the coccyx removed????
