I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis in 2000 and have 8 herniated discs in

the cervical, thoracic and lumbar areas of my spine. This auto-immune disease, among many things, causes severe inflammation throughout my body. In November 2010 I sat down normally on our soft cushion couch and I screamed out in pain from the tailbone region of my body. I shocked myself with my scream, but more shocking was this pain out of the blue. I hadn't fallen or done anything at all to help me determine what was going on. So, for a month or so I just didn't bother sitting and thought that maybe it would just go away on it's own. It didn't, and was getting worse.

I started researching possibilities, I saw my rheumatologist about it and she wasn't helpful. I read that some people were helped by neurosurgeons, I saw one, it was a total waste of time. Doctors suggested the usual PT which I was already doing on my own (having gone to PT 3 times weekly for 2 years you get quite good at it on your own relative to what exercises may be helpful).

Then, one magical day, I found coccyx.org and all I can say is God bless this website and Dr. Schrot & Mandi at UC Davis (see Doctors and specialists in the USA, California). In July my hubby and I made the 5 hour round trip to see Dr. Schrot. He took the dynamic exploration xrays and determined that the problem was severe inflammation in the coccyx region from ankylosing spondylitis and that we should try an injection in the region and if no relief, then schedule removal. Wow! I'm still post one injection later and I have ZERO pain there! I can do anything with no discomfort there whatsoever. For only 3-5 days later there was only slight discomfort, in fact, I think from watching my husband's face during the procedure he was definitely in more pain than I was. I felt so bad for him.

Dr. Schrot and Mandi are NOT your average care givers. They are both incredible. Mandi treated me like I was family. I doubt that I will ever see them again, but if the problem ever returns I will have the best care in the world with Dr. Schrot & Mandi. May God bless them now and always, thank you so much! Everyone on this website helped me, and I thank all of you, and I hope everyone is doing great!

Fondly,

Linda Deese
